Description: The BFI Film Fund welcomed filmmaker and actor Craig Roberts (The Phantom of the Open, Eternal Beauty) and producer Mark Herbert (Submarine, This is England, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) to an exclusive in conversation event on 21 February 2022, hosted by Mia Bays, Director of BFI Film Fund. Having worked together on Submarine – Roberts starring and Herbert producing – the filmmakers talk about their unique paths to forging successful careers, plus share how they broke into the industry, both coming from working class backgrounds outside of London. Craig Roberts also discusses his experience of moving from in front of camera to directing, including the upcoming release of BFI-backed The Phantom of the Open (released 18 March in UK cinemas) starring Mark Rylance, and Sally Hawkins. Herbert talks about the challenges in developing a viable long running production company with a diverse slate of powerful regional stories.
